Don CoreyDon Corey teaches guitar and bass
at Portland Music Co. on Division. He graduated from Berklee College of Music in 1991 with a bachelor's degree in Music Performance. Don is excellent with kids and beginners as well as advanced players. He has been teaching for over 10 years and strongly believes music should be fun .He has an abundance of patience and enthusiasm. Lessons can include techniques for soloing, theory, sight -reading , chords, playing by ear , and having fun learning your favorite songs. Don has very eclectic musical tastes. He has experience playing Jazz, Classical, Rock, African, Reggae, Funk and Cuban music.

Bem TylerBen Tyler: Drums

Ben Tyler has been playing professionally since he was 15 years old and teaching since he was 18 and worked as a freelance drummer in his hometown Albuquerque, New Mexico and later in Phoenix, AZ. He has done extensive touring throughout the U.S. and has appeared in numerous publications including Downbeat magazine. He received the Jazz Bird Scholarship at ASU in Tempe, AZ where he studied drum set and Latin percussion as well as piano and music theory. Ben believes in encouraging each students' creativity and individuality while teaching them reach their full potential as musicians.

John O’Brien (Guitar)

John O’Brien has performed in the metro area for over twenty years. He has performed at the Rose Festival, the Rose City Park (UMC) Concert Series, and at the Museum of the City of San Francisco, as well as wedding and business receptions at The Heathman, Timberline Lodge, The Princeton, and Skamania Lodge, among other venues. In 2000 he received a fellowship and traveled to Italy for six months to study performance and composition with Angelo Gilardino, helped by a grant from RACC. He is known for his arrangements of Irish harp music for guitar, for tangos and for his CD “Singing the Apple,” which was picked by the Oregonian as one of its years’ 10 best.

Gordon Neil HermanGordon Neal Herman (Piano)

Gordon Neal Herman is a piano instructor at Portland Music Co. on 123rd and Division. He has been playing piano 34 years and has been teaching for 30 years. He earned a Bachelor of Music from California State University - Long Beach in jazz history and a Master of Music from the University of Idaho in composition. Gordon teaches jazz, classical and popular styles along with theory and technique. Besides being a piano instructor, Gordon is a performer, composer and music historian. He has performed and recorded with several jazz groups most notably the jazz quintet Miles Ahead and currently leads the Gordon Neal Herman Trio. As a composer, Gordon was part of national residency in musical theater and has written many works for musical theater, wind ensemble, string quartet, and piano. Gordon teaches classes in jazz and American popular music history and music technology at Marylhurst University.

Barbette Falk (Saxophone)has been teaching and performing in the Portland area for the past 22 years.  Her principle instrument is saxophone (all styles and levels) and she also teaches beginning flute and clarinet as well as beginning to intermediate level piano.  Her background includes performances with the Oregon Symphony Pops, and Quartette Barbette, as well as local big bands, pop and rock bands and musical theater.  She also has a background working with special needs children and is dedicated to providing quality instruction with an emphasis on varied learning styles.  www.quartettebarbette.com http://www.quartettebarbette.com Contact ph# 503-232-8862.
