RØDE Microphones
has evolved from the Freedman Group of Companies which were
established in 1967 by Henry and Astrid Freedman after they
emigrated to Australia from Sweden. Freedman Electronics was
a pioneer in the Australian audio industry, involved in design,
manufacture, installation and service of a diverse range of
audio products.
Loudspeakers, amplification and associated electronics (and
microphones) were all a part of the company's area of expertise
and development within the confines of the (small) Australian
market. Analysis (and subsequent modification and improvement)
of various microphones showed clearly that within the company,
were the talents and ambitions to design and produce superior
products. In 1990 the decision was made to produce and market
the first RØDE microphones.
Before the home recording market 'explosion' there were very
few established and respected manufacturers of recording (condenser)
microphones. Those previous 'market-leaders' produced premium
product which also carried a premium price. Why were they so
expensive??? Well, the market at that time was small, and considerable
investment had to be recouped from very few customers.
RØDE's early manufacturing coincided with the emergence
of a much larger market home recording and project studios.
The company was aware, that by using the latest technology,
and the best design and engineering staff, quantities could
be produced which would achieve economies of scale previously
unheard of.
1998...RØDE, now clearly established as a market-leading
force, moved into a new purpose-built 20,000sq ft factory and
offices (located within the 2000 Olympics area). The premises
has allowed the very necessary increases in electronic production,
final assembly, warehousing, dispatch and administration, to
supply the growing worldwide demand.
The separate dedicated metal-work facility (250km north west
of Sydney) is equipped with the latest computerised machinery
and produces the microphone bodies and associated fittings to
the highest standards.
RØDE's commitment to its customers is to continue to
provide products that represent the ultimate in value and satisfaction.
We do that by investing strongly in research and development,
listening to people who use microphones, and by bringing forward
the new manufacturing techniques which make products better.
Furthermore we will continue to provide the best after-sales
service, as we realise that when a person invests in our microphones,
this is the beginning of a relationship which we hope will last
a lifetime.
