Taylor Guitars 500 Series

Boasting rich midrange and warm, articulate tones, tropical mahogany has established itself among the tonewood elite. Many consider these striking all-gloss guitars the ultimate fingerpickers — especially the cedar-topped 514ce and 512ce — while bolder strummers and flatpickers may lean toward the bigger-bodied 510ce and 516ce. Visually, engraved Deco Diamond inlays and faux tortoise shell binding honor mahogany's classic heritage.

Taylor 512ce

A fingerstylist’s dream, Taylor’s mahogany/cedar Grand Concert 512ce packs stunning warmth and midrange presence into a comfortable, player-friendly package. The smaller body and 24-7/8-inch-scale neck make for an intimate playing experience, and the cedar top responds with a wonderful midrange bloom, especially for players with a light touch. This year’s edition features a move to V-Class bracing tailored for the Grand Concert shape, which pushes a surprising amount of volume from this small-bodied guitar, coupled with notes that sustain gorgeously. The new bracing design proves a perfect match for a solid cedar top, opening up greater headroom while maintaining cedar’s natural touch sensitivity and warmth. An elegant cutaway opens up the fretboard, while Taylor’s ES2 pickup delivers organic amplified acoustic tone. Appointments include faux tortoise shell binding and pickguard, a rosette of faux tortoise shell framed by grained ivoroid, and a grained ivoroid Century fretboard inlay.

Taylor 514ce

Cedar’s warm midrange overtones and quick response make it a coveted top wood among fingerstylists and other players with a lighter touch. On this mahogany/cedar cutaway Grand Auditorium, V-Class bracing lifts those sonic virtues to new heights, serving up an even more powerful all-around response with billowing sustain. Add to that the bundle of sonic refinements that V-Class brings, including more powerful notes all the way up the fretboard and greater in-tuneness between the notes (thanks to a more orderly response from the top), and you’ve got a guitar that can cover a lot of ground. Mahogany’s naturally dry, focused voice emphasizes the midrange, lending a warm, clear punch that strummers, blues players will especially appreciate. Appointments include faux tortoise shell binding and pickguard, a faux tortoise/ivoroid rosette, and our striking Century fretboard inlay scheme in grained ivoroid with a new peghead inlay to complement the motif. With onboard Taylor ES2 electronics, you can count on natural-sounding amplified acoustic tone whenever you need it. The guitar also features a Venetian cutaway for upper-fretboard access, and ships in a deluxe hardshell case.

Taylor 522e 12-Fret

Taylor’s compact Grand Concert 12-fret guitars deliver a uniquely inspiring playing experience. The shorter 12-fret neck and 24-7/8-inch scale length create a slinky handfeel that makes fretting and bending strings easier, and the different bridge placement articulates the top in a way that produces a remarkably powerful voice for a small body. This year’s model features the addition of V-Class bracing, which pairs beautifully with this all-mahogany body for clarity, power, and sustain, along with the focus and warmth inherent to this popular tonewood. The V-Class design also puts the top more in tune with the strings, which improves the intonation across the entire fretboard, eliminating sour notes and creating a more balanced tonal output between fretted and open strings. The hardwood mahogany top also helps smooth out a player’s attack for a more consistent tonal response across the frequency spectrum. Noteworthy aesthetic touches include a shaded edgeburst body and neck, faux tortoise shell binding, a rosette of faux tortoise shell framed by grained ivoroid, and a grained ivoroid Century fretboard inlay. With Taylor’s onboard ES2 pickup and preamp, all your expressive playing nuances will translate into your amplified sound. This Grand Concert guitar ships in a deluxe hardshell case.
